SCHOOL HISTORY
It was officially opened on 26 February with notaries such as Sir Edmund Herring, Lieutenant Governor of Victoria and Dr Frank Woods, Archbishop of Melbourne taking part in the proceedings. Our first Principal was J R Pascoe. Together with his staff, he was commissioned ‘to guide and instruct the boys in their care.’ A busy decade of substantial building and development ensued including the construction and opening of the Senior School including the Library, Geography, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Arts and Crafts buildings, Music School and Administration block. In 1972 the Hearing Unit opened, enabling hearing impaired students to enjoy all aspects of the School’s educational offering. Twelve years after the School first started, girls were introduced into HSC (Year 12) marking Yarra Valley Grammar’s co-educational beginning – a development that has only enriched the School’s learning environment. Further works over the next 20 years extended the School’s exceptional facilities to include a new Hall, Performing Arts Centre and the Physical Education and Sports Complex. As the School’s facilities increased, so did its student body. The concept of a Junior School, Middle School and Senior College school was introduced in the 1990s, by which time student numbers exceeded 700. The Early Learning Centre was officially opened in 2002, bringing with it a continuous learning opportunity for Yarra Valley Grammar students, starting from three years of age. Now in its 42nd year, Yarra Valley Grammar (re-named in 1999) and its students continue to celebrate success in all their academic, sporting, artistic and community endeavours. Across every aspect of every year level of our School, having the confidence to achieve is the greatest quality of all. As with all of the School’s milestones, the remarkable development of Yarra Valley Grammar and its unique and dynamic learning environment could only be achieved with the assistance and commitment of students, parents and the greater School community. |
