TEACHERS’ ART TALENTS COME OUT OF CLOSET Five Yarra Valley Grammar teachers have wowed the school with an art exhibition. More than 70 pieces of art were on display at the school’s George Wood Performing Arts Centre last month. Art and design teacher Steve Freestone said the exhibition was ‘‘well received’’ by parents, students and the community. ‘‘It was excellent,’’ Mr Freestone said. ‘‘On Saturdays parents come here for the sport and they came up and had a look. ‘‘The principal has raved about it and all the students came up during the week and had a look.’’ Mr Freestone said his 20-painting collection was inspired by a two-week trip to the Flinders Ranges. ‘‘I did some sketches and took some photographs while I was there and it took me 21/2 years to finish the whole series,’’ Mr Freestone said. He said he originally intended to show his works as a solo exhibition. But he said fellow teachers Rob McPherson, Lindy Spreadborough, Sue Plumb, Kristy McWaters and Laurie Hamilton jumped at the chance to be involved. ‘‘It didn’t take long for our close-knit department to get on board,’’ Mr Freestone said.
