Yarra Valley Grammar’s sporting programs foster team spirit, good sporting etiquette, self-discipline, perseverance, dedication and a commitment to physical fitness and wellbeing.

As part of our commitment to an active lifestyle and the benefits of participating in team sport, Yarra Valley Grammar students are involved in sport at both School and interschool levels.

Our House system enables students to be involved in sport at a School level. Our four Houses are named after the founders of our School: Annells (blue), Arnott (maroon), Hughes (yellow) and Plummer (green).

Both girls and boys at Yarra Valley Grammar participate in the Saturday interschool sports competitions.

Interschool competition for the girls is held on Saturday mornings against schools from the Associated Grammar and Associated Public Schools of Victoria (AGS/APS). The boys participate in interschool competition though the Associated Grammar Schools of Victoria (AGSV) with matches scheduled for Saturday mornings.

All students from Years 6 – 12 are expected to be available to represent the School if selected in teams for interschool competition. Students are also required to attend training after school on the designated day.

At the conclusion of the summer and winter season, Combined AGSV teams are selected to play representative matches against other Associations.

During the summer season the following sports are played:

Girls – Volleyball, Badminton, Softball, Tennis
Boys – Basketball, Cricket, Badminton, Table Tennis, Tennis, Volleyball

During the winter season the following sports are played:

Girls – Hockey, Netball, Basketball, Soccer, Cross Country
Boys – Soccer, Australian Rules Football, Hockey, Cross Country

Further to the Summer and Winter seasons of sport, athletics and swimming both have their own program. Swimming is held during Term 1 and Athletics normally operates in Term 3. The House Athletics and House Swimming Programs help identify students capable of representing the school at AGSV level.

In addition to the comprehensive, interschool Saturday Sport competition, Yarra Valley Grammar offers students the chance to participate in a wide range of other sports. These included, but are not limited to, equestrian, snow sports, kayaking and golf.

We are fortunate that our wide-ranging sporting program is supported by state-of-the-art facilities. Our students enjoy access to the extensive Allen Crawley playing fields, the magnificent Sports Complex, eight tennis courts, two netball courts, a floodlit hockey pitch, two gymnasiums, weights rooms and a heated swimming pool.

More information about Saturday Sport is available in our School Policies.
