ELC PROGRAM
At Yarra Valley Grammar’s Early Learning Centre relevant, play-based programs enable children to develop socially and emotionally, in a structured and supportive setting. Our curriculum is designed so that all children develop a powerful sense of self and reach their full potential physically, socially, emotionally and intellectually. A strong focus on play as an important component of the day means children enjoy numerous opportunities to be both creative and active. Our curriculum is designed around eight ‘Foundation Areas of Learning’: Self and Social Development, Communication, Creativity, Critical Thinking, Health and Physical Development, Cultural Understanding, Environmental Understanding and Technology. At 4-year-old level the ELC program also includes specialist classes such as Physical Education, Music, French and Library. Within this framework, each ELC child has their own individual learning plan, which identifies their strengths and needs. Goals are then formulated and experiences planned to help consolidate or further extend skills. Each child also has a portfolio, which provides a written and photographic record of his or her progress throughout the year. The portfolios are presented to the children at the end of the year and provide special memories of their time in the ELC. |
