INDIVIDUAL LEARNING

individual-learningEACH INDIVIDUAL STUDENT REQUIRES JUST THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF SUPPORT AND ENCOURAGEMENT TO ACHIEVE THEIR FULL POTENTIAL.

Yarra Valley’s extensive resources and enrichment programs provide extension for gifted students, while specialist teachers provide extra support to enable others to experience success in an area of weakness.

These services are delivered by the Individual Programs Department, which plays a central role in the needs-identification process and ongoing monitoring of relevant programs. Staff work closely with the pastoral care teacher, specialists, parents and outside providers in the implementation and review of these programs.

The style of delivery reflects the needs of the individual and takes into account the way in which the student learns best. A variety of approaches exist, and may include one-to-one, small group, withdrawal, targeted group within a classroom, like minded groups, mixed ability based on interest and mentors.

Considerable time is devoted to devising individual programs that are specific to the needs of each child. The implementation of students’ Individual Learning Plans is supported by ongoing monitoring, regular meetings, complete information handover, testing (standardised and diagnostic) and specialised assessments as required.

All of these strategies are used to provide appropriate and success-rich opportunities for our students, relevant to their personal interests, talents and abilities.
