PASTORAL CARE
Quality pastoral care is a key component of the Junior School experience, where boys and girls learn and develop within a supportive environment that acknowledges their individuality and the unique contribution each child is able to make. Junior School’s strong pastoral care program includes regular opportunities to monitor, discuss and reflect upon student welfare. Classroom teachers take on most of the responsibility for individual students’ wellbeing, and they are well supported by the Deputy Principal – Head of Junior School and Welfare team (including individual Programs and Counselling). Formal programs that support the wellbeing of students in Junior School include buddy activities, leadership groups, comprehensive transition programs and whole school programs such as ‘You Can Do It’. We see the relationship between school and home as critical, and in partnership with parents we seek to provide success-rich opportunities for all children where a sense of respect, connectedness and wellbeing is fostered. In addition to encouraging students to feel safe, valued and listened to, in Junior School we also seek to provide carefully considered challenges that encourage resilience, flexibility, creativity and initiative as part of students’ growth into balanced, successful adults. A concern for others together with valuing service to those in need is highly valued and encouraged. |
