PASTORAL CARE
Student wellbeing is a key focus in Middle School, where we are absolutely committed to providing a safe, caring learning environment. All Middle School students have a dedicated pastoral care teacher, who acts as a mentor, monitoring their progress and wellbeing throughout the year. Year Level Co-ordinators and the Head of Middle School support pastoral care teachers to ensure that every student is known, respected and valued. In Year 7, class sizes are small and students are part of a Home Room, where they spend much of their classroom time. A settled, structured experience is provided for Year 7 students, who are making the very important transition from primary to secondary education. Year 8 and 9 students are more independent, although the student-teacher pastoral care relationship remains critical. Students at these Year levels are part of a Tutor Group, and Tutor Group teachers continue to provide students with valuable guidance and mentoring. Quality communication between student, School and home is vital in Middle School, as it is across Yarra Valley Grammar as a whole. Through this three-way partnership we ensure the wellbeing of every student and forge families’ important connection with the Yarra Valley Grammar community. |
