PASTORAL CARE
In Senior College our ongoing pastoral care program is designed to ensure students have the emotional, as well as the academic support they need. To successfully manage the myriad of commitments and responsibilities that feature throughout their final years of secondary education, we believe students need to strike a balance between their studies and the rest of their lives. Senior College is a time when students become more independent. While we recognise this at Yarra Valley Grammar, we also know that the continued care we provide for our senior students makes a big difference in terms of their ability to achieve their personal academic best. Senior students are busy people, managing hectic schedules including their academic program, sporting and other co-curricular activities, plus extras such as an active social life, part-time job or learning to drive. Pastoral care groups (Tutor Groups) in Senior College are small and Tutor Group Teachers take on a one-to-one mentoring role with each student in their care. In this way, Tutors can effectively guide and advise, following each student’s progress and helping to make positive changes where necessary. Year Level Co-ordinators and the Head of Senior College provide additional support. Communication with parents is a key feature of the approach to pastoral care in Senior College. By working with parents and keeping lines of communication open at all times, we make sure each student is fully supported, and given the best possible chance of achieving success. |
