Individual Programs Support Teacher & Literacy Coordinator

Yarra Valley Grammar is a co-educational school catering for students from our Early Learning Centre through to Year 12. An exciting opportunity exists to join our enthusiastic team as an Individual Programs Support Teacher, working in our Primary School. (In this role, withdrawn students are from the lower primary levels)

The successful applicant will: 

Be able to demonstrate excellence in teaching and have experience in working with children with additional needs, particularly in the area of Literacy
Have a recognised teaching qualification and, ideally, additional qualifications in the Special Education area. Reading Recovery would be seen as an advantage.
Have a sound and current knowledge of the literacy education of children and its application in the classroom
Possess a thorough knowledge of Literacy Teaching, along with a knowledge of approaches such as THRASS, analytic and synthetic phonics and Smart Spelling. An understanding of online support materials such as Oxford Owl, Sunshine Classics, PMecollection, etc would be an advantage
Apply curriculum knowledge and teaching methods which facilitate successful student learning
Be an excellent communicator, working comfortably in a close, team environment
Provide an organised, balanced and challenging program which is relevant to the needs of the students and consistent with the aims and objectives of the School and the Department
Use a range of effective teaching methods, taking into account each individual student’s ability
Encourage students to achieve their personal best
Strive to ensure participation of all students in the learning process
Regularly assess and provide feedback on students’ work and social integration
Exhibit skills to enhance pastoral care for students
Regularly monitor, review and respond to the effectiveness of the learning program
Develop strong communication with the parents of the students with additional needs
Contribute to the programs and activities (including extra curricular activities) that are part of the life of the School 

Current VIT registration is mandatory.
