Conversations That Count:
On Day 1 of Term, the Year 7 students enjoyed an inspiring presentation from Jeremy Irvine (YOG 1992). Jeremy spoke of what it means to be a Yarra Old Grammarian and the importance of making the most of your time, and the opportunities offered, at Yarra. He spoke about the significance of the support of the Yarra Community, that he still enjoys today.
For our Year 11 and 12 students it was particularly good to hear from recent YOGs (graduates from 2022) about how they coped with the challenges of VCE and juggling the many demands on their time. Some great advice and reassurance was given to the students, and many of their questions were answered. A big thank you to Jack, Lauren, Nathan, Ben, James and Caitlin for supporting the Yarra students in this way.
Community Links Development Squad:
A group of students from Years 5, 6, 8, 9, 11 and 12, who are particularly interested in helping the community, have been selected to participate in Yarra’s inaugural Community Links Development Squad. This leadership program is being assisted by Professor Mark Boyes (YOG 1987). The students were delighted to be joined by Mark who took them through the process of creating a Vision, Mission and Values for the program; they spoke about what leadership is and investigated different leadership styles. This is a great example of a YOG with key skills, passing on his knowledge and expertise to current students – for that we thank him.
