Inspiring Today's Students

Tertiary Insights and YOG Uni Catch Ups

Earlier this year we held our inaugural YOG Tertiary Insights. This was a way in which our younger YOGs were able to help to inspire our Year 12 students about the various pathways that they could take immediately post-Yarra. YOGs were able to participate in a facilitated conversation with our Year 12s to provide insight into universities, courses and other pathways e.g., trades, military services and more.

We would love your help with our 2024 Tertiary Insights and YOG Uni Catch Ups!

For 2024 this event will occur on Friday 24 May from 8.15am until 10.00am.

Following this event, where possible/applicable, we would also appreciate some help with our YOG Uni Catch Ups, where YOGs can host students on their uni campuses to show them around and provide further insight and knowledge of campus life. In 2024, this will occur at flexible days and times between Monday 1 July and Friday 12 July - you only need to commit to 1 hour during this time.

If you are interested in helping at these events, please express interest via a quick online form HERE.

We very much appreciate your support of this key “next steps” event for our Year 12 students.

Science Week Chat: Women in STEM

In August, Yarra’s Years 9 – 12 girls had the opportunity to meet with a number of women who have chosen their careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

Amongst these guests was Anna Linehan (nee Curry) (YOG 2004) who is currently a Veterinarian in Gippsland. Our sincerest thanks to Anna, and the other inspiring STEM women, for demonstrating to our girls what their futures could look like.

Gap Year Adventures

There are many different pathways students can take after graduating. Some of our Year 12 students were able to meet with Ella Northwood (YOG 2018) to explore the opportunities that can be had from taking a gap year. Ella was able to share more about her adventures travelling the world in her gap year before completing her university studies. Our thanks to Ella for assisting in inspire our students on alternative pathway options.

Year 12 YOG Gifts

In October, we were delighted to be back at Yarra to welcome the 2023 cohort into the YOG fold. We appreciate this opportunity to host our newest YOGs and wish them all the best for their upcoming exams and assessments. This year we were able to gift them each with a carry bag, water bottle and wireless charger. We hope they are reminded of YOG when they use them and are able to continue their association with Yarra and reap the social and professional benefits of being a YOG.
