YOG President's Message
It is the year of reunions as we busily make up for the missed reunions during the ‘lockdown’ years. Please check out the dates (later in this newsletter) for information on your reunion. These always prove to be very popular events and if you have any memorabilia for your year level, feel free to bring it along and help in the reminiscing!
In previous news, we had let everyone know of an art piece we have commissioned for the School. This artwork was completed by Kirsten Jackson (YOG 1987) and the unveiling is to be part of the Graduate Art Exhibition being held at Yarra on 11 October. Look out for more information and how to get your ticket to this event.
Our strategy to provide additional focus on careers and professional development advice is now in its 2nd year. This is a 3-5 year strategy designed to allow current students access to the vast professional knowledge base in the YOG network, provide opportunities for YOGs to contribute and benefit from the experience, and to also begin building stronger connections between the current student body and YOG. Feedback to date has been positive and at the recent New Parents Welcome Night, I received very positive feedback from parents, who could see the benefits of such an experience. If you are interested in joining in, please keep an eye out for opportunities to provide a Career Byte, participate in YOG Speed Careering, provide mentoring skills, work experience opportunities, advice on tertiary education, etc. Alternatively, please contact us on yog@yvg.vic.edu.au and let us know that you’d like to contribute your expertise!
YOG will be included in the YVG Board Strategy process this year, which continues to ensure that we work closely with the School Executive and Board on the direction YOG is taking, how it can benefit the School, and in turn, how the School can provide support for YOG based initiatives. This connection is critical in establishing YOG’s position in the overall YVG strategy, and it is exciting to be involved!
Stay warm this Winter, happy reading and I look forward to seeing you at a YOG event sometime soon.
