President's Report

As usual, the YOG year has started with activities spanning across our sports and careers based initiatives, with healthy participation from YOGs across the years.

The continued focus on providing students with access to YOG experiences in both tertiary and professional journeys continues to reap rewards for all involved. The wealth of experience amongst YOGs is providing valuable insights to students, to assist them in preparing for life after school. Involvement in the New Parents Welcome Night is an initiative that we have continued. New parents are impressed with YOG's commitment to their children’s future and feedback is overwhelmingly positive. Most parents are unaware of our careers agenda and positively provide feedback to encourage their children to get the most out of it.

We have recently held our AGM and introduced some new faces to the Committee. This refreshing of the committee is continuing to drive fresh thinking in how YOG can continue to provide value to both YOGs and students. We also revised our constitution, modernising it and encompassing any changes to our regulatory requirements as an Association. Included in that is an email you will hopefully have received requesting that you confirm your contact details and express your decision to be a part of YOG. If you haven’t done so, please email us on yog@yvg.vic.edu.au so that we can continue to remain in touch and let you know of all upcoming events (including reunions!)

One of the reasons for the YOG success story is the ongoing commitment from the school to supporting our objectives and in particular, encompassing YOGs within the careers curriculum of the school. I’m not sure other schools provide as much commitment and allow such integration with the current student body as Yarra – and the results indicate that this is a positive attribute.
