Term 2 welcome

It is my great pleasure to welcome you all to Term 2 for 2019.

Good Friday Appeal

I offer a great vote of thanks and congratulations to the team from YVG who once again supported the Royal Children’s Hospital in the Good Friday Appeal. We raised an impressive total of $37,948.50 with 406 students and 37 Old Grammarians collecting door to door. If you include staff and parents/carers/friends, then the number of Yarra community members involved was approximately 600. We won the Pied Pipers Perpetual Trophy again for our efforts on Good Friday. The award is presented to the school that raises the largest total. Student, parents, staff and friends of the school give up their own time in the service of others.

Great Yarra Shave

In a similar vein, the Great Yarra Shave for Year 7, 8, 10, 11 and 12 students took place on Friday 5 April, the last day of Term 1, to raise awareness of, and funds for, the Leukaemia Foundation. Year 9 students will take part this Friday, 3rd May. We have raised $16,671.29 so far which is a wonderful effort and one which again highlights the willingness of Yarra students to think beyond self.

The Term Ahead
There will be lots on for this Term. The AGSV Winter Sports program has begun; Mid to late May is going to be a time of excitement as we look forward to the completion of the new Research Centre and the renovations for the PAC. Design discussions for the Art Building and associated car park will commence in the next few weeks and I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your patience and forbearance during our building program. Our School Board meets for its annual strategy day to continue in its mission to guide our school into the future. Amongst all of this there will be plenty of teaching and learning going on.
