en-us Inspired by Yarra

Bianca Cubitt

YOG 2013

Social Media Advisor & Businesswoman

"The School tailored my passion and helped me grow into the person I am today."

Many of the skills that Bianca Cubitt relies on today in her family business were instilled in her during her years at Yarra.

Bianca runs a business with her mother that specialises in designing and manufacturing contemporary outdoor furniture, garden screens and homewares.

Bianca has nothing but positive memories of her six years at Yarra and the friends she made at school remain close friends today.

“I threw myself into school from day one. I remember the food was unreal in the café – I still think about the pizza!” she says.

“I was involved backstage with the school production of Grease, and in Year 12 I did the art tour to Italy. To go to Italy with friends to study the art was a once in a lifetime opportunity.”

“At Yarra I did C4D and learned everything that I use today. Textiles, media and visual arts were a passion and while I was never the top student academically, the school tailored my passion and helped me grow into the person I am today. Emma De Guzman taught me the skills I use every day,” says Bianca.

After graduating, Bianca stuck with her interest in media, design and the potential of social media. She studied social media and communications, majoring in social media marketing.

“In high school I was on Facebook and Instagram and Dad was telling me I’d never make a career of it. I was stubborn and wanted to prove him wrong!” says Bianca.

And she did by getting her first job with Holden as a Social Media Advisor. But three years ago, Bianca joined her parent’s sheet metal manufacturing business, specialising in design and digital marketing.

With her mother, Bianca has also started an off-shoot business, LaTink (www.latink.com.au), that uses metals to create their range of outdoor furniture, garden ornaments and homewares. Her parents have always been Bianca’s proud supporters.

“I come from a close family. My sister is a qualified scientist and she works in the family business and my brother is our production manager. My parents nurtured all of us to follow our dreams.”

While she left Yarra some years ago, Bianca remembers the school motto and it still has meaning for her.

“To me, it means moving forward. If you lift up your eyes you can move forward. Don’t look down and dwell on the past. Keep moving forward and the sky’s the limit.”
