Yarra Valley Grammar proudly celebrated the Commissioning of Dr Amy Van Arkkels as the School’s seventh Principal at a special service held on Friday 16 October 2026.
The Most Reverend Dr Ric Thorpe, Archbishop of Melbourne, conducted the Commissioning, marking an important milestone in the School’s 60 year history. The ceremony brought together the entire Yarra Valley Grammar community, with students from the Early Learning Centre through to Year 12 participating in the celebration.
Family members, friends, colleagues and distinguished guests joined staff and students for the occasion, which reflected the spirit, values, and traditions of the School. The service featured inspiring performances by the Yarra Valley Grammar Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Choir, showcasing the talents of students across the School.
A highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of meaningful gifts to Dr Van Arkkels, symbolising the School’s past, present, and future, and recognising the shared journey of the Yarra Valley Grammar community.
Dr Van Arkkels commenced as Principal in July 2026, bringing extensive experience from leadership roles in several leading independent schools, most recently as Deputy, Academic (K–12) at Newington College in Sydney. A respected educational leader, researcher, and advocate for evidence-based practice, she is passionate about creating environments where both students and educators can flourish.
As the Yarra Valley Grammar community welcomes Dr Van Arkkels into this significant leadership chapter, it looks forward to the vision, scholarship, and commitment she will bring as the School continues to inspire young people to become generous and capable citizens.
