Individual Learning

Just the right amount of support and encouragement

Each student needs just the right amount of support and encouragement to achieve their full potential. Yarra Valley Grammar’s extensive resources and enrichment programs provide extension for gifted students, while specialist teachers provide extra support where it’s needed.

Staff in our Individual Programs Department play a central role in the needs-identification process and in the ongoing monitoring of our students. They work closely with parents, fellow teachers, specialists, pastoral care staff and aides in the implementation and review of these programs, meeting regularly and seeking and providing feedback.

We acknowledge that students with learning difficulties have individual needs. We assist parents in having these needs formerly identified by specialists so that we can tailor a learning program that is right for each student. An individual learning program might include an assessment of a student’s needs and abilities, accommodations in the school program in relation to expectations and goals, modifications to the curriculum, individual classroom support and access to specialists.

The style of delivery reflects the needs of the individual and takes into account the way in which the student learns best.

Enrichment programs are also offered via Individual Programs, including G.A.T.E.ways in the Junior School, as well as mentoring and cross-age opportunities. In the Middle and Senior Schools, a variety of internal and external programs allow students to extend and challenge themselves.

Our staff continually update their knowledge through professional development, sharing their expertise with parents and fellow teachers to ensure each student has the opportunity to achieve their potential.
